Henry Engelhardt CEO of the Admiral Group
Henry Engelhardt is the Chief Executive of the Admiral Group, one of the most successful of all the direct response car insurance firms in the UK.
In mid-1991 he was recruited to create and run what has become the Admiral Group. Admiral launched on time and under budget on January 2nd 1993 from its headquarters in Cardiff and now has over 1,900,000 policyholders and over 3,000 employees.
There are nine brands under the Admiral Group umbrella: Admiral, Bell, Confused.com, Diamond, elephant.co.uk and Gladiator in the UK, Balumba.es and Rastreator.com in Spain, AdmiralDirekt.de in Germany and ConTe in Italy. Turnover in 2008 was more than £900m. Profits in 2008, the most recent full year announcement, were £202m.
In September 2004 Admiral listed its shares on the London Stock Exchange. The value of the company on that day was £711m. Since then Admiral’s shares have traded for as much as £11.95. Today the value of the company is around £2.3 billion and Admiral is one of the firms that makes up the FTSE 100.
Admiral has also won many awards, including Business of the Year at the 2004 National Business Awards and Employer of the Year at the same ceremony in 2005, Welsh Company of the Year in 1999 and 2005 and it has been named one of the top 100 Companies to Work For in the UK by the Sunday Times every year the list has been compiled.
Immediately prior to starting Admiral, Henry Engelhardt was the Marketing & Sales Manager for Churchill Insurance.
An American, Henry Engelhardt has worked in the US, UK and France in direct response financial services. He holds an MBA from Insead, Fountainebleau, France as well as a BA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mi. USA.
Mr. Engelhardt is married with four children and lives in Cardiff.
